Mining Engineer

New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand or the AXXIS® steel for framing brand.

Applications are sought for the position of Mining Engineer to join our Waikato North Head technical team based in Franklin. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:

  • Geological interpretation & pit grade control.

  • GPS topographic survey.

  • Mine layout fieldwork.

  • Supervising exploration campaigns.

  • Developing and instigating short term mine plans.

  • Have input into medium and long term mine plans and schedules.

  • Manage the day to day activities of onsite contractors.

  • Monitor mine activities and progress against plan.

  • Develop GPS surfaces for mining machine control.

This is a key specialist role within the technical team of the mine site and is expected to display strong initiative, a drive for results and leadership. You will have a tertiary qualification in Geology / Earth Sciences or Mining Engineering and whilst not essential, an A or B grade Quarry Managers qualification is desirable. Your uncompromising attitude to safety, enthusiastic attitude and ability to work autonomously in a small team will set you up for success.
