Join Our Team as a Mining Operator – Waikato North Head

Waikato North Head Mine Site is looking for two motivated
Mining Operators to join our hardworking and supportive team.
About the Role
Waikato North Head plays a key role in supplying New Zealand
Steel by mining and producing primary iron sand concentrate, which is
transported in slurry form to the Glenbrook Steel Mill. Situated near the mouth
of the Waikato River in Otaua, this site is home to one of the richest iron
sand deposits on the North Island’s West Coast.
We currently have a permanent opportunity for a Mining Operator to join our busy operation. Working a 12-hour rotating shift roster, you’ll carry out a variety of tasks across the Mining team:
- Week 1: 4 × 12‑hour day shifts (Mon–Thu)
- Week 2: 3 × 12‑hour night
shifts (Mon–Wed)
Reporting to the WNH Production Supervisor, you’ll be
involved in heavy vehicle operation as well as a range of mining and support
activities. A strong and uncompromising commitment to safety is essential.
You’ll grow your skills on the job while collaborating
confidently and communicating well with others.
About You
We’re looking for someone who thrives in an operational environment and brings the right attitude, reliability, and teamwork. Experience in mining, quarrying, construction, or earthmoving is preferred. To be successful, you’ll need:
- A clean Full Class 1 licence (minimum requirement)
- Proven experience in mining, quarrying, construction, or earthmoving equipment operation (predominantly bulldozer and excavator, including Komatsu 475 bulldozers and PC700 excavators)
- A WTR endorsement (advantageous but not essential)
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Self‑motivation and the ability to show initiative
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- A solid attendance and employment record
- A willingness to contribute positively to a diverse and inclusive workplace
- Ability to demonstrate
strong safety behaviours in a high-risk environment
