Cold Finishing Operators – Fixed term 12 months

New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

We currently have 12-month fixed-term opportunities available for motivated and reliable individuals to join our Cold Finishing Team. 

What you will be doing

Reporting to the Cold Mill Team Leader, the primary function of this role is packing coils, crane driving, and assisting with operating the recoil line. 

Your main responsibility is to maintain our exceptional product standards and the continued smooth running of our operations; full training will be provided to safely operate the plant and equipment within the cold finishing area. 

The hours

Monday to Thursday 2.30pm-12.30am. 

Initially these hours may vary whilst an initial training period is worked through.

You may be asked to work additional hours as and when needed.

What you will bring to the role

Along with the ability to learn the required skills on the job and produce high quality work in a timely manner, the successful applicant will have:

• A willingness to undertake manual handling work
• Great communication skills both verbal and written
• Excellent computer literacy 
• Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills 
• A positive attitude, ability and willingness to take ownership of your work
• Proven good attendance and work history
• Experience operating forklifts and/or cranes would be an advantage but not essential.

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to teamwork along with a willingness to positively contribute to a diverse and inclusive work environment and an uncompromising attitude towards health and safety.
