Electrical / Instrument Tradesperson
New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.
About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled Electrical/Instrument Tradesperson to join our Utilities and Services team on a permanent, full‑time basis. Reporting to the Utilities PME, you’ll play a key role in keeping our plant running safely, reliably and efficiently.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring your assigned plant and equipment are well maintained, in good condition, and ready to meet operational and environmental requirements. Your day-to‑day work will include:
- Monitoring plant and equipment condition
- Completing preventative maintenance and repair work with a strong focus on quality
- Carrying out instrument calibrations
- Providing technical support for electrical, mechanical and operational investigations and fault finding
This is a day‑shift position, though you may occasionally be required to work extended hours during shutdowns, breakdowns, shift cover, or call‑outs.
About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a strong team mindset, excellent communication skills, and an uncompromising commitment to safety. With a high level of responsibility in this position, you’ll need to be confident working independently while also having the organisational skills to plan, prioritise, and support others when required.
We’re also looking for someone who can consistently produce high-quality work, troubleshoot effectively, and apply strong analytical thinking to solve problems.
You will ideally bring:
- Electrical Registration, an Electrical Trade Certificate, and a current practicing licence
- NZQA Instrument Measurement & Control (or equivalent) — preferred
- The ability to integrate into and work collaboratively
within a small team
