Electrical Reliability Engineer


New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

We’re seeking an experienced and safety-focused Electrical Reliability Engineer to join our collaborative Rolling Mills Maintenance team at NZ Steel, Glenbrook.

Reporting to the Rolling Mill Maintenance Superintendent, you will play a key role in maximising plant reliability and availability through effective maintenance strategies, asset performance improvement, and technical leadership across operational and ancillary equipment.

About the Role

In this position, you will:

  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to support Rolling Mill reliability
  • Lead equipment performance improvement initiatives
  • Carry out maintenance planning as required
  • Provide technical support during breakdown events
  • Identify critical spare requirements and ensure optimal stock levels

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week role (Monday–Friday), with occasional weekend availability required during breakdowns and shuts.

As the equipment performance owner, you will use your engineering expertise to analyse failure modes, drive continuous improvement, and lead cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable reliability outcomes.

You will be a strong communicator and collaborative leader, with an uncompromising commitment to safety and quality. Highly organised and analytical, you’ll bring a structured, problem-solving mindset and the ability to prioritise and delegate effectively.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Electrical Engineer
  • Proven leadership experience within an industrial environment
  • Strong background in root cause analysis and equipment failure investigation
  • Sound understanding and application of RCM principles
  • Experience with Maximo maintenance systems
  • Control systems experience
  • Logical systems thinker with strong analytical capability
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously
  • Demonstrated commitment to high safety and quality standards
