Heavy Diesel Mechanic


We have an opportunity for an experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our team. SteelServ provides specialist transport and processing services to meet New Zealand Steel’s range of requirements and operations. New Zealand Steel is located in Glenbrook, Auckland.

New Zealand Steel, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat-rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

What you will be doing

Steelserv services a broad range of heavy earth-moving equipment from a diverse range of OEM Suppliers.

No two days will be the same and you will need to have a broad range of skills along with being able to think outside the box, be flexible and intuitive with a can-do attitude.

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles and associated equipment.

The working hours for his position will be 40 hours per week, Mon- Friday. You must be prepared to work shifts as required and be available for overtime and Callouts as required.

What you will bring to the role

High attention to detail with strong verbal communication skills, together with technical aptitude and problem-solving skills. You are able to work well within a small team with minimum supervision with an uncompromising attitude to safety.

If you have strong work ethic and a good sense of humor, you will fit in perfectly with the team!  

Together with the above, you will also have:

Experience in heavy earthmoving equipment (minimum 5 Years) OEM Trained in either Volvo or Caterpillar equipment would be highly regarded.

  • Strong Automotive Electrical Skills
  • Strong Diagnostics background in Hydraulics would also be very favourable
  • Would Suit Tradespersons from Mining and Quarrying backgrounds
  • While Experience is preferred Relevant skills in similar trades would be considered

The base salary for this role is approximately between $35 - $41 per hour.
