SteelServ provides specialist transport and processing services to support the operations of New Zealand Steel at our Glenbrook site in Auckland. We are looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team and play a key role in keeping our fleet and equipment operating safely and reliably.

About the role

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, diagnostics, and servicing of a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles, earthmoving equipment, and associated machinery.

Working across a diverse fleet with equipment from multiple OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) suppliers, no two days will be the same. This role will suit a skilled tradesperson who enjoys problem-solving, working with complex machinery, and finding practical solutions in a fast-paced operational environment.

This is a Monday to Friday role, working 40 hours per week. You will also need to be flexible to support operational requirements, including occasional shifts, overtime, and callouts when required.

What you will bring

You will be a motivated and safety-focused Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic with strong technical capability and a passion for delivering quality workmanship.

To be successful, you will have:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience working on heavy earthmoving equipment
• New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 4) – Heavy Automotive Engineering strand (or equivalent)
• Experience with Volvo or Caterpillar equipment (OEM training highly regarded)
• Strong automotive electrical skills
• Solid diagnostic capability, particularly with hydraulic systems
• Experience working within mining, quarrying, or similar heavy industrial environments (highly regarded)
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
