High Voltage Technician (Fixed Term)

New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand or the AXXIS® steel for framing brand.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and safety-focused High Voltage Technician to join our Utilities Team on a 6-month fixed-term basis.

Reporting to the Services Maintenance Engineer, you’ll be a key member of our Utilities Team, responsible for delivering high-voltage electrical maintenance, fault response, and project work across our site.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. You’ll ensure all work is completed to the highest standards, protecting our people, the public, and our critical assets while maintaining the reliability of our electrical systems.

This role operates on a 40-hour week, with additional overtime opportunities available.

What you will bring

We are looking for an energetic, disciplined, and motivated High Voltage Technician who takes pride in their work, enjoys solving complex problems, and contributes positively to a high-performing team environment.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Electrical Registration, Electrical Trade Certificate, and a current Practising Licence.
  • 5+ years’ experience working with high-voltage equipment, ideally within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with high-voltage maintenance, fault-finding, and distribution systems.
  • Experience working in a heavy engineering environment.
  • Experience using SAP R/3 or similar maintenance management systems would be an advantage.
  • The ability to diagnose faults, complete repairs, and coordinate repairs with external providers where required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to utilise your high-voltage expertise within a unique industrial environment while continuing to grow your skills and career.

If you’re looking for a challenging and rewarding role where your skills make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
