Hot Strip Mill Operator

New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

What you will be doing

We’re looking for a reliable, safety-focused team player to step into a permanent role with the NZ Steel Hot Strip Mill Team. 

What’s involved

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in helping us maintain our high product standards and keep operations running smoothly. Full training will be provided, and you’ll gain hands-on experience operating plant and equipment in the Hot Mill area.

The normal working hours for this position are 42 hours per week (12 hour / 4 shift rotating pattern) however to ensure that operational requirements are met, you may be required to work additional hours when needed.

What you’ll bring

We’re after someone who is dependable, motivated, and eager to learn. You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

• A positive attitude and a willingness to take ownership of your work
• Good communication skills – both written and verbal
• Strong computer skills
• Solid problem-solving abilities
• A good attendance record and a strong work ethic
• Manual handling capability
• Previous experience with forklifts and/or cranes (a bonus, but not essential)

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to teamwork along with a willingness to positively contribute to a diverse and inclusive work environment and an uncompromising attitude towards health and safety.
