Key Account Manager - Sales


New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat, long and rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand or the AXXIS® steel for framing brand.

 

The role

We are looking for a commercially focused Key Account Manager to join our collaborative and diverse Sales team. You will take ownership of key customer and value-chain relationships, developing a strong understanding of each customer’s business and identifying opportunities that create value for both our customers and New Zealand Steel and Pacific Steel.

This is a varied and influential role where you will build trusted relationships, lead commercial conversations and turn customer and market insights into action. Working closely with teams across the business, you will help deliver profitable growth and strengthen our position in the market.

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing and developing a portfolio of key customer relationships

  • Delivering agreed revenue and profitability outcomes
  • Identifying and progressing new market and growth opportunities
  • Leading commercial discussions and customer initiatives
  • Bringing meaningful customer and market insights back into the business
  • Working across functions to deliver practical outcomes for customers and New Zealand Steel and Pacific Steel. 

 

What you will bring to the role

You will be commercially astute, curious and collaborative, with the confidence to engage across different levels of a customer’s business.

You will enjoy building long-term relationships while remaining focused on results. You will be comfortable working autonomously, using sound judgement and taking the initiative when opportunities or challenges arise.

Ideally, you will bring:

Demonstrated experience managing and growing significant customer relationships

  • Strong commercial acumen, including ownership of revenue and profitability outcomes
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • The ability to influence and build credibility with customers and internal stakeholders
  • A proactive approach and the confidence to work autonomously
  • An interest in learning the technical aspects of our products and markets
  • Experience in building, construction, manufacturing or a related sector would be an advantage.
