Laboratory Chemist

About the role 

We are seeking a Laboratory Chemist to join our Quality Assurance team in our IANZ Accredited Environmental Laboratory. This role is responsible for the collection, preparation, testing and reporting of routine and non-routine environmental samples, ensuring accurate and timely results in line with laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.

You will work closely with technical and support teams to deliver reliable testing outcomes while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and compliance.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect environmental samples from designated locations daily
  • Prepare, analyse and test routine and non-routine samples using approved laboratory methods
  • Complete testing and reporting accurately and within required timeframes
  • Maintain precise records, documentation and correct storage of samples
  • Follow SOPs to ensure the reliability and suitability of testing tools and methods
  • Control and manage laboratory consumables
  • Contribute to IANZ audits and ongoing accreditation requirements
  • Support effective collaboration across laboratory, environmental and operational teams
  • Undertake additional duties as required

What you will bring

Essential

  • Laboratory Technician qualification or Science degree
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a chemistry or environmental laboratory
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate workflows and meet deadlines
  • High attention to detail and professional integrity
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Intermediate Excel skills and high level of computer literacy
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a customer-focused mindset
  • Full Driver’s License 
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual handling tasks, including lifting and field work

Preferred

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience working within an IANZ-accredited laboratory, specifically ICP-OES operation. 
  • Exposure to environmental testing and non-routine sample analysis
