Maintenance Engineer Mechanical
New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand or the AXXIS® steel for framing brand.
Join New Zealand Steel and play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our Cogen plant.
As a Maintenance Engineer, you’ll monitor plant and equipment condition, analyse performance data and take action to prevent failures and improve reliability. Working closely with the Plant Maintenance Engineer, Reliability Engineers, operations and maintenance teams, you’ll help develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies across the plant.
What you’ll be doing
- Monitor plant and equipment condition, collect and analyse data, and identify opportunities for corrective action.
- Use your mechanical knowledge and SAP experience to plan and coordinate maintenance activities.
- Develop and implement preventative and condition-based maintenance strategies.
- Investigate equipment failures and undertake detailed root cause analysis to identify and implement corrective actions.
- Plan maintenance activities including shutdowns, inspections and overhauls.
- Provide technical support for fault finding and equipment reliability.
- Coordinate contractors and work closely with maintenance and operations teams.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, improved reliability and reduced unplanned downtime.
- Promote and maintain our Zero Harm culture across all maintenance activities.
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have a Mechanical NZCE or equivalent, together with maintenance experience in a heavy engineering or industrial environment.
You’ll also bring:
- Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with SAP and good computer skills.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A collaborative, team-focused approach and positive, self-motivated attitude.
- An uncompromising commitment to health and safety.
This is a permanent, full-time day position. Extended hours may be required during shutdowns, breakdowns and occasional callouts.
