Maintenance Fitter / Rollshop Machinists


New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

About the Role

We’re looking for two skilled Maintenance Fitter or Rollshop Machinists to join our Rolling Mills Roll Shop team based at NZ Steel in Glenbrook. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, you will play a key role in refurbishing and maintaining roll supplies that keep our Rolling Mills running smoothly and efficiently.

These are permanent, full-time positions.

You’ll need to be someone who can learn new skills on the job, work efficiently, and consistently deliver high-quality results. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Mechanical Trade Certificate (essential)
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to work confidently on your own
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Solid computer literacy
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • A positive attitude, with the willingness to take ownership of your work
  • A proven record of good attendance and producing quality workmanship

Hours of Work

These positions work an average of 42 hours per week on a 12-hour, 4-shift rotating pattern. 

To meet operational demands, you may be required to work additional hours when needed.
