We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Apprentice to join our team; this is a fantastic opportunity to gain a recognised mechanical trade qualification while developing practical skills and experience in a large industrial environment.
What you’ll be doing
As a Mechanical Apprentice with SteelServ, you’ll learn from experienced tradespeople while gaining hands-on experience across a range of mechanical maintenance activities. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills in areas such as:
- Mechanical maintenance, repairs and fault finding
- Using hand and power tools and mechanical equipment
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Maintaining and repairing industrial machinery and equipment
- Working safely as part of a skilled maintenance team
- Developing the knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified mechanical tradesperson
Your apprenticeship will be completed on site at New Zealand Steel over four years, combining practical, on-the-job learning with the requirements of your trade qualification.
What we’re looking for
we’re looking for someone with the attitude, aptitude and willingness to learn.
To be successful, you will have:
- NCEA Level 2 or equivalent
- A genuine interest in mechanical engineering and maintenance
- Proven mechanical aptitude or a strong interest in how things work
- A hands-on approach and willingness to get stuck in
- A strong commitment to health and safety
- Reliability and a positive attitude
- The ability to work well as part of a team
Previous hands-on experience, hobbies or interests involving mechanical work, tools, vehicles, machinery or equipment would be an advantage.
