Mechanical Reliability Engineer

What you will be doing

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and safety-focused individual to join the NZ Steel Steelmaking team as a Mechanical Reliability Engineer on a permanent basis. 

Reporting to the Steelmaking Maintenance Superintendent, this role is responsible for supporting plant reliability and maximising equipment availability across steelmaking operational assets and ancillary equipment.

In this role, you will contribute to the ongoing improvement, maintenance, and reliability of plant equipment through preventative maintenance strategies, equipment failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will also play a key role in supporting the lifecycle management of ageing equipment and driving reliability-focused outcomes across the plant.

This position is primarily day shift; however, there will be a requirement to attend callouts and extended hours when needed.

What you will bring to the role

We are looking for someone who is proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to maintaining high safety standards. You will enjoy working collaboratively within a team environment while also being able to take ownership of technical and reliability initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

  • A Mechanical Engineering qualification 
  • Experience within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment 
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis methodologies 
  • Understanding of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) principles 
  • Experience with SAP and PMO maintenance systems 
  • Exposure to industrial maintenance and reliability practices 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills 
  • A willingness to learn and contribute positively across the wider team
