Mobile Plant Operator 4-month Fixed Term

New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

We are seeking motivated and safety-focused individuals to join our SteelServ team as Mobile Plant Operators on two 4-month fixed-term contracts.

SteelServ provides specialist transport, logistics, and material processing services that support the operations of New Zealand Steel. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a large industrial environment while working alongside a supportive and experienced team.

About the Role

Working day shifts and reporting to the Operations Team, you'll play a key role in supporting site operations through the safe and efficient operation of mobile plant and equipment.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and can adapt to changing operational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate mobile plant and equipment as required
• Support day-to-day operational and processing activities
• Follow site procedures and safe work practices
• Complete pre-start checks and basic equipment inspections
• Work collaboratively with team members to achieve operational targets
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and site presentation
• Assist with a variety of site tasks as required

About You

You are reliable, safety-conscious, and enjoy working in a fast-paced industrial environment. You have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and are willing to contribute wherever needed.

To be successful, you will have:

• A strong commitment to health and safety
• A current Full New Zealand Driver Licence
• Proven reliability and a solid employment history
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• The ability to work effectively under pressure
• A flexible and adaptable approach to work
• Strong attention to detail

Desirable Experience

While not essential, the following experience would be highly regarded:

• Loader operation
• Excavator operation
• Water cart or truck driving
• Forklift operation
• Experience working within industrial, manufacturing, transport, mining, quarrying, or construction environments
