New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.
What you will be doing
We have a permanent opportunity for an experienced Oilerperson to join our Rolling Mills Maintenance team at NZ Steel.
Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Engineer, you’ll be responsible for carrying out specialist lubrication of plant and operating equipment to support reliable plant performance, minimise equipment wear and help maintain safe and efficient operations.
Safety is at the heart of everything we do at NZ Steel. In this role, you’ll be expected to follow safe work procedures, identify and report hazards, and take personal responsibility for ensuring lubrication and maintenance activities are carried out safely. You’ll need to remain alert to your surroundings, recognise potential risks and work collaboratively with others to maintain a safe working environment.
This is a permanent, Monday to Friday day-shift position. Occasional overtime may be required to support plant shutdowns and call-outs, including weekend work.
What you’ll bring to the role
To be successful in this role, you’ll have previous lubrication experience, a high level of mechanical aptitude and a strong commitment to working safely in an industrial environment.
You’ll also bring:
- A proactive and uncompromising approach to health and safety, with the confidence to identify hazards and speak up about unsafe practices
- Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise work effectively
- The ability to learn quickly, troubleshoot issues and apply a practical problem-solving approach
- A strong work ethic and a willingness to undertake physically demanding work
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a close-knit team
- A commitment to teamwork and contributing to a diverse and inclusive workplace
Previous experience using SAP will be an advantage.
This is a busy but rewarding role offering variety, the opportunity to apply your specialist skills and the chance to be part of a supportive maintenance team. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of equipment reliability and puts safety first, every day.
