Paintline Operators


New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

What you will be doing

Our Paintline Operators are highly skilled, reliable and able to work with attention to detail and high safety standards.

We have three 6-month fixed-term opportunities available now.

The main function of this role is to maintain our exceptional product standards and the continued smooth running of our operations. This role will require you to fulfil the following duties:

  • Loading and unloading products onto trucks for distribution
  • Operate, clean and set up manufacturing equipment in a safe manner
  • Banding and wrapping steel coils

The normal working hours for these positions are 42 hours per week (12 hour / 4 shift rotating pattern) however to ensure that operational requirements are met, you may be required to work additional hours when needed. 

What you will bring to the role

While full training will be provided to the right candidates, to be successful in this role you will be willing to learn, will easily adapt to changing work demands and be willing to collaborate with co-workers and support the team in other areas when needed. 

Some manual handling work is required. 

The successful applicants will have:

  • Motivation to work unsupervised and collaboratively within an inclusive team environment 
  • Attention to detail and accountability with a willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Positive attitude with the ability and willingness to take ownership of your work
  • Proven good attendance and work history
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • A Current Forklift licence and experience is essential. 
  • Previous crane operating is desirable
