Quality Technician - Product testing


Pacific Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, is New Zealand’s only manufacturer of wire rod, reinforcing bar and coil products. You may know us for our flagship PACIFIC® brand.

We’re on the lookout for a motivated Quality Technician to join our high‑performing Quality Assurance team based at Pacific Steel, Otahuhu. This is a permanent role.

About the role

Reporting to the Test Technician Team Leader, you’ll be an integral part of our Quality Assurance Testing Laboratory, playing a hands-on role in ensuring our products consistently meet the highest standards. This is a role for someone who takes pride in precision and enjoys working with detail.

Your key responsibilities will include preparing and testing products for quality Assurance. Every day brings variety, responsibility, and the satisfaction of knowing your work directly contributes to product excellence and conformity.

The role operates on a rotating shift pattern, working 5 days per week across three 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday work. Demands for product testing in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment where quality truly matters.

About you

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a strong understanding of scientific and mathematical concepts, along with:

  • A genuine team player mindset and a positive, can‑do attitude
  • A meticulous, quality-focused approach with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Previous quality assurance experience (preferred), with a good understanding of materials and testing methods
