New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.
Our Central Maintenance Group is seeking a highly skilled Registered Electrician to support critical maintenance across our large-scale industrial operations at Glenbrook and Waikato North Head.
This is a hands-on role best suited to an experienced tradesperson who is confident working in complex industrial environments and is comfortable taking ownership of electrical maintenance outcomes across heavy processing plant equipment.
What you will be doing
You will play a key role in maintaining the reliability and availability of plant and equipment across multiple operational sites.
In this role you will:
Deliver planned and reactive electrical maintenance in line with site maintenance schedules
Carry out preventative maintenance activities to improve plant reliability, safety, and performance
Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults across industrial and multi-discipline systems
Provide technical support and input into mechanical, operational, and instrumentation fault-finding
You will be working across our large-scale industrial site in a high-risk environment, requiring a strong safety focus and a practical, hands-on approach.
This is an 11-month fixed term day shift role working 8hr days Monday to Friday, with requirements to support planned plant shutdowns, maintenance outages, callouts, and occasional overtime as required.
What you will bring
To succeed in this role, you will be a Registered Electrician with a current EWRB practising licence and proven experience in industrial or heavy commercial environments.
You will also demonstrate:
Strong experience in industrial electrical maintenance, fault finding, and diagnostics
Confidence working with HV systems and/or industrial instrumentation (highly advantageous)
Ability to interpret technical information and resolve complex plant issues independently
A strong safety mindset, particularly in high-risk or operationally live environments
The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
Clear communication skills when working with engineers, maintenance teams, and operations
This role is not suited to entry-level electricians or those without industrial maintenance experience.
What we can offer
We offer the opportunity to work within a large, technically diverse industrial environment where your expertise directly contributes to plant reliability and operational performance.
You will also receive:
A stable 11-month fixed-term opportunity within an established industrial organisation
Ongoing technical learning and development opportunities
Company-funded Southern Cross health insurance
Monthly company performance-based bonuses
Exposure to complex, large-scale industrial systems and maintenance challenges
Being part of the BlueScope brand makes us a strong and successful global company offering connections throughout the world and providing access to resources and tools from the wider business.
