Be Part of the Future of Steel

New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, is transforming the way steel is made in Aotearoa. You may know us for our iconic COLORSTEEL® brand — now, we’re leading the charge toward a more sustainable future with the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) project, one of the most significant industrial upgrades in New Zealand’s history.

We’re looking for 3 passionate and driven Operators to join us in this exciting new chapter.

About the Role

We’re offering 12-month fixed-term Operator positions at our Steel Plant in Glenbrook. You’ll be at the heart of a cutting-edge steelmaking process that’s cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready.

You’ll play a key role in producing high-quality liquid steel in a large-scale industrial environment, helping us meet the evolving needs of our customers and the planet.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operating heavy machinery safely and efficiently, with a strong focus on health and safety
  • Receiving hands-on training to grow your skills and advance your career
  • Supporting continuous production and contributing to operational excellence
  • Working within a rotating 12-hour, 4-shift pattern, with occasional overtime to meet demand

What We’re Looking For

We’re building a team that’s ready to shape the future of steel. You’ll thrive here if you bring:

  • positive, proactive attitude and a passion for learning
  • technical mindset or experience with heavy machinery (we’ll train you if you’re new!)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • A collaborative spirit – teamwork is everything in this environment
  • Basic computer literacy to support modern operations

Why Join Us?

This is more than just a job — it’s a chance to be part of a once-in-a-generation transformation. The EAF project is a major step toward reducing carbon emissions and creating a more sustainable steel industry in New Zealand.

As part of the BlueScope global network, you’ll have access to world-class resources, development opportunities, and a supportive team culture that values diversity, inclusion, and innovation.
