Tax Accountant


New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.  You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.

What you will be doing

As a key member of our finance team you’ll oversee all NZPI Tax compliance requirements, this is an exciting opportunity to make an impact in a dynamic, well-respected company that continues to grow.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and forecasting of income tax returns
  • Managing communications with IRD and external advisers on a range of tax and business matters
  • Preparing internal tax documentation
  • Supporting subsidiaries with their tax compliance and requirements
  • Preparing deferred tax proof calculations for NZ Steel and its subsidiaries
  • Annual and month-end reporting
  • Providing tax advisory services to the business
  • Completing and reviewing tax reconciliations
  • Ensuring compliance with changing tax legislation and leading required internal updates

What you will bring to the role

With your strong corporate tax compliance experience and solid understanding of NZ tax legislation, you’ll also bring:

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills
  • CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent), with 3+ years in a tax or tax-focused accounting role
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent working knowledge of NZ tax including tax returns, deferred tax, capital tax, tax governance, transfer pricing and tax planning. 
  • Working knowledge of SAP (advantageous)
  • Effective communication skills when working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of ETS tax treatment would be an advantage

Ideally, we’re looking for a permanent full-time employee, but flexible options are available, including part-time, full-time, or fixed-term arrangements. We’re also open to discussing arrangements for candidates balancing other consultancy commitments.
