Utilities Mechanical Technician
New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.
Applications are invited for the position of Mechanical Technician in the Utilities area. Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Engineer, this role requires strong technical competence and a focus on improving equipment reliability through the application of practical mechanical skills.
What you will be doing
You will ensure NZS safety policies and standards are adhered to, take appropriate action when required, and apply BSL and NZS standard procedures, systems, and policies. You will monitor plant and equipment condition, collecting data to analyse and take corrective action, and use your mechanical knowledge and SAP skills to plan maintenance work.
Working together with the Plant Maintenance Engineer and Reliability Engineers, you will help create and implement the plant’s preventative maintenance strategy. You will also undertake detailed root cause analysis of plant and equipment failures, ensuring the necessary corrective actions are implemented to address root causes.
What you’ll bring to the role
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have:
- Uncompromising commitment to health and safety.
- A Mechanical NZCE or equivalent qualification.
- Maintenance experience in a heavy engineering or industrial environment.
- Knowledge and experience using SAP R/3, along with strong computer skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A positive, self-motivated attitude and a genuine willingness to learn.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative and diverse team.
