WNH 10hr Day Operator
New Zealand Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope, manufactures and markets a range of flat rolled steel products for the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors. You may know us for our flagship COLORSTEEL® brand.
Waikato North Head is looking for a motivated and safety-focused Mining Operator to join the team in a permanent full-time day shift position.
What we do
Waikato North Head’s primary purpose is to mine and produce primary concentrate, which is then transported in slurry form to New Zealand Steel’s Mill at Glenbrook. Located at the mouth of the Waikato River at Otaua, southwest of Glenbrook, Waikato North Head’s iron sand deposit is one of the richest along the North Island’s west coast.
What you will be doing
Reporting to the Supervisor, you will play an important role in the safe and efficient operation of the mining area. Your responsibilities will include operating the following mobile equipment:
-Excavators (1.5t to 70t)
-Bulldozers (33t to 115t)
-Articulated Dump Truck (40t to 45t)
-Grader (JD 872G)
-FEL (10t to 12t)
This role requires the successful applicant to work independently:
-Maintain roads, access-ways and edge protection
-Maintain and push off tip-heads
-Construct and maintain dewatering pond and drains
-Move HDPE pipework around site
This role also requires the successful applicant to work well in a team assisting our various operational areas (Tailings, DMU Mining, Utilities) and participating in truck and shovel circuits.
You can expect to be working outside in the elements and being part of a shift roster, (Monday to Thursday) 10-hour days.
